Silk Fibroin

  • Fibroin is a type of protein created by Bombyx mori (silkworms) in the production of silk.
  • It is a promising scaffold material for ligament because it is a strong biocompatible protein-based polymer that exhibits slow degradation rates.
  • Its films composed of silk I structure were first prepared by slow drying process.
  • Raw materials of fibroin is silk.
  • It can be spun at rates as fast as 10 ml/hr using this electrospinning method as well as it will be extracted from the cocoons of Bombyx mori silkworms.
