Medium, small and micro enterprises feel small

Medium, small and micro enterprises feel small
BS Reporter / New Delhi December 8, 2008, 1:06 IST
The medium, small and micro enterprises (MSMEs), which account for over 40 per cent of India’s industrial production, are unhappy over the fiscal measures that were announced today. Industry representatives from these sectors are likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday to present their unmet demands. “The measures may be incremental but inconsequential,” said Anil Bharadwaj, secretary general, Federation of Indian Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises. The MSME sector employs 31 million people in about 10 million units spread across the country.

Government Announces Measures for stimulating the Economy

MSME Sector The Government attaches the highest priority to supporting the medium, small and micro enterprises (MSMEs) sector which is critical for employment generation. To facilitate the flow of credit to MSMEs, RBI has announced a refinance facility of Rs.7000 crore for SIDBI which will be available to support incremental lending, either directly to MSMEs or indirectly via banks, NBFCs and SFCs. In addition, the following steps are being taken. (a) To boost collateral free lending, the current guarantee cover under Credit Guarantee Scheme for Micro and Small enterprises on loans will be extended from Rs.50 lakh to Rs.1 crore with guarantee cover of 50 percent. (b) The lock in period for loans covered under the existing credit guarantee scheme will be reduced from 24 to 18 months, to encourage banks to cover more loans under the guarantee scheme. (c) Government will issue an advisory to Central Public Sector Enterprises and request State Public Sector Enterprises to ensure prompt payment of bills of MSMEs. Easing of credit conditions generally should help PSUs to make such payments on schedule.

Tyre, tire oil from used Tyres, tires - project information

Tyre, tire oil from used Tyres, tires - project information: "Thermal pyrolysis is a process used for tire recycling. It splits complex materials into desirable ones under high temperature, i.e. turns rubber into oil, steel and carbon powder. Development of effective pyrolysis technologies
has been going on since the early eighties but the high temperature of the process (typically 700°C - 800°C) has so far led to poor quality of the recycled substances with low commercial value.
It is further claimed that the decreased temperature of
the process prevents complex hydrocarbons from thermal destruction, which happens in traditional processes conducted at higher temperatures.
100 Tons/Day plant is estimated to cost USD 30 Millions
The reclaimed oil could be used for fuel or petroleum products, the carbon black for inks, dyes or rubber or plastic products, and steel for automobiles or construction materials"

Direct Marketing of Mushrooms

Direct marketing
If you can sell your mushrooms or mushroom products directly to an end user, you will naturally receive a better price than if you sell to a wholesaler. Direct marketing of mushrooms at local farmers' markets, to restaurants, or in supermarkets is possible in many locations. When competing in local markets, excellent service, top quality, and consistent supply, rather than the lowest price, might win the sale, particularly with gourmet chefs. Some chefs specialize in locally grown foods and may be interested for that reason. Others are willing to pay for fresh, premium produce. In any case, establishing a relationship with the buyer and reliably delivering a quality product are essential for this type of marketing.
Local grocery stores are another potential buyer of fresh mushrooms. However, an Arkansas grower found that local grocery chains were interested in her shiitake mushrooms only if she could assure them of a year-round supply. She decided that she had to add indoor production in order to meet this requirement. Natural foods stores are a market that may be more tolerant of seasonal supply. Any chef or grocer will require assurances of both quality and regular supply before switching from established wholesale sources.

Growing Demand for rare earths and metals

Globally, demand for rare earths and metals -- for instance, zirconium, beryllium and lithium -- has exploded in recent years.
That rapid growth is being propelled by the importance of rare earths and rare metals to a variety of products, including cellphones, digital cameras and, especially, a whole range of automobile applications. By some estimates, 30 per cent of the world's consumption of rare earths is related to cars, a figure that could grow as more consumers shift to hybrid vehicles, which typically contain more than 60 pounds of rare-earth product.
China supplies more than 90 per cent of the global demand is a huge opportunity
buyers want more supply-side diversity......

Marketing is the number one problem with rabbit raisers ?

Marketing prospects should be located and developed promptly when one engages in rabbit production. The FIRST market for meat is the family, neighbors, towns and cities within the locality. Rabbit meat can then be sold in dressed form to hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, and open markets. Rabbit barbecue can be sold by sidewalk vendors. But if we are to succeed at all we must successfully market the IDEA of eating rabbit meat to ALL strata of the population...not only to the middle and upper class but, to the strata that compose the majority of the populace... the grass roots. WE must in fact convince ourselves before convincing others!
By-products of rabbits such as fur, tails, paws, and manure are certainly added income. In fact, more money will be made in marketing by-products than in the sale of meat alone

Tomato Processing Plant in Nigeria need partners

As the promoter of this project, I was invited to attend 8th World Processing Tomato Congress and 11th Symposium on Processing Tomato in Canada, from June 8th -11th, 2008 as an observer, with a view to Nigeria joining the organization. The WPTC is only open to Tomato Processors and / or grower organizations representing the industry in their Country. We do not have such association in Nigeria, hence the observer status; but it was an ideal opportunity to meet people in the industry and start the association in Nigeria. I was not able to attend the Congress because of circumstances beyond my control. Nevertheless an avenue for future interaction has been opened. Please read the attached detailed business presentation. I believe the potentials are terrific! I am ready to commit everything for this project, assets and equity.

Govt bid to boost bank lending to food processing

In a bid to bail out the food processing industry from the current financial crisis, the Government has allocated Rs 1,000 crore to the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard).
Nabard will utilise the fund to refinance banks that lend to the food processing sector.
“Banks have been advised to provide loans for the fast emerging food processing sector and if need arises, it can reimburse the loan portfolio from Nabard,” Mr Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, said on the sidelines of Foodworld India 2008 – Global convention on Food Business & Industry, organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Seizing the Day in Slippery Times - NYTimes.com

Seizing the Day in Slippery Times - NYTimes.com: "In hard times, it is tempting for business owners to make wholesale reductions and take a passive approach while waiting for the economy to improve. But that could deepen the pain. For example, they might eliminate buying equipment that could make them more productive or generate work. Afraid of admitting that their business is slow, some owners fall out of touch with people who could send them referrals.
Some owners, like Mr. Walker, find that action not only relieves anxiety but can also lessen financial adversity. Here are strategies that he and other business owners are using to cope."

Technology
A new material recycling technology for crosslinked rubber was developed using the continuous reactive processing method. In this process of producing reclaimed rubber; breakage of crosslinking points in the crosslinked rubber occurs selectively under the controls of shear stress, reaction temperature and internal pressure in a modular screw type reactor. Deodorization during the process has also become possible by a newly developed method. The reclaimed rubber obtained from rubber waste generated from both manufacturing products and post-consumer products shows excellent mechanical properties applicable to new rubber compounds.

The Honey Project empowers teen entrepreneurs - 01/14/2008 - MiamiHerald.com

The Honey Project empowers teen entrepreneurs - 01/14/2008 - MiamiHerald.com: "The Honey Project is a nonprofit entity that sells organic honey from Africa to people in the United States. The students charge about $20 for a 12-ounce jar to help raise money for the village in Agogo, Ghana, where the honey is produced.
The company plans to evolve into a for-profit entity in about six months, Burrell said. The project has funded about 100 bee hives in Agogo, and hopes to eventually double that number. The hives have only been there for about six months, so while the students wait for the mass amounts of honey to be shipped over from Agogo, they soft launched by selling organic honey from Zambia, which is shipped in from Ohio. So far they've made about $7,000 in revenue."
