Ethyl Cellulose

Ethylcellulose (EC) is a hydrophobic ethyl ether of cellulose.

Ethyl cellulose (EC) is a non-toxic, stable, compressible, inert, hydrophobic polymer that has been widely used to prepare pharmaceutical dosage forms.

Ethylcellulose is one of the most widely used water-insoluble polymer in film-coating to achieve extended drug release.

EC is currently used in pharmaceutical applications for microencapsulation of actives, controlled-release matrix systems, taste masking, solvent and extrusion granulation, tablet binding, and as a controlled-release coating for tablets and beads.
